Trama : Viktor Larenz è uno psichiatra di Berlino, brillante, ricco e reso per di più celebre dalle sue frequenti apparizioni televisive. La sua vita pero va improvvisamente in frantumi quando la figlia dodicenne Josy, affetta da una malattia sconosciuta, scompare senza lasciare traccia durante una visita nello studio del dottore che l’ha in cura. Viktor la cerca ovunque senza mai rassegnarsi, ma tutto ciò arriva a costargli la carriera e il suo stesso matrimonio. Quattro anni dopo, Viktor Larenz si è ritirato in un’isola lontano da tutto e da tutti, quando riceve la visita di Anna Spiegel, una scrittrice di libri per bambini che sostiene che i personaggi che crea possano diventare reali. Uno di essi, in particolare, somiglia in modo impressionante alla piccola Josy e forse porta con sé la risposta a ciò che è accaduto alla bimba di Viktor. Ma chi è davvero Anna Spiegel, e perché sua figlia Charlotte ha gli stessi sintomi di Josy e deve sfuggire a un’identica minaccia?
Recensione : Se penso che questo è il suo primo romanzo, giù il cappello a colui che ha fatto di questo genere psico-thriller il suo marchio di fabbrica. Un romanzo che definirei allo stesso tempo inquietante ed amaro. Un susseguirsi di colpi di scena, di certezze che si trasformano in dubbi, di personaggi che nascondono qualcosa. Il tutto viaggiando in bilico tra realtà e illusioni. Gioca molto sui disturbi mentali dei personaggi ma senza eccedere, in modo da non trascendere nell’assurdo ma di sfiorarlo per camuffare la realtà. Il tutto in un crescendo narrativo che ti incolla al libro e capitolo dopo capitolo ti costringe ad andare avanti. 250 pagine che, letteralmente, volano via. Un equilibrio anche nella lunghezza, a mio parere, in modo da creare il giusto clima e ritmo, senza buttare via nulla.

Quando le batterie di un telecomando si stanno scaricando, per esempio, per cambiare canale quasi tutti fanno una maggiore pressione sui tasti. Review :
If you think this is his first novel, hats off. Fitzek has done this kind of psycho-thriller his trademark. A novel that call at the same time disturbing and bitter. A succession of twists, certainties that turn into doubts and characters who are hiding something. Always traveling between reality and illusions. He plays a lot about the mental disorders of his characters but not exceeding; he is not transcending in the absurd, keeping the reader just in touch with it, in order to disguise the reality. His style, a narrative crescendo, will paste you to the book and chapter after chapter forces you to move forward. 250 pages that literally fly away. A balance also in the length, in my opinion, in order to create the right climate and rhythm, without throwing anything away.
